A modern chorale that uses chromaticism and sonorities to create both bright and dark colors. The use of keyboards (piano, optional celeste, and percussion) is an integral part of the piece, along with many solo instruments. The opening trumpet solo sets the entire piece in motion going through many ups and downs, finishing with a dark sonority that resolves to a unison note.
